GoogleEarth + Google Maps + ESV = OpenBible.info

Remember those old maps in the backs of the Bible?  The ones that always fell out after a few years of use?  The ones that traced the path of the Israelites or Paul's journeys?  OpenBible.info has developed a very cool online tool aligning GoogleEarth with the Bible.  Thanks to the intricacies of Google and geocoding, you can now go online and find the modern day locations for ancient sites and cities mentioned in the Old and New Testaments.  You can even drill down and see aerial shots of many places such as the Garden of Gethsemane.  Some areas are at a decent resolution, meaning you can drill down and see roads and even houses in many of these areas.  Maybe we're just map geeks but to us this really helps bring the Bible to life.

Check out this link and see graphical illustrations of where the action was taking place during various periods of biblical history.  Or go book by book.  Here's a link to the Mt. of Olives.

This is a terrific tool to add perspective when studying the routes Jesus, Moses, Paul, Jonah, and others took in their journeys.  Bookmark this one.  We'll be here awhile.
